Tribeca
Tribeca
is located at the Ocean View Hotel, in the heart of JBR’s The Walk, Dubai. Named after the famed TriBeCa
district of New York, it is an acronym for ‘Triangle Below Canal Block
Association’.
Tribeca
keeps up with the artsy scene that is so ‘New York’. The décor is loft-style meets warehouse interior with concrete floors, exposed brick
walls and steel pipes, quirky urban décor, artifacts,
contemporary
pop art and chilled out industrial
mayhem all that pays tribute to Tribeca’s industrial
roots. Graffiti-style walls in the balcony, mismatched chairs, funky lamps hanging from the ceiling,
make this a perfect any day joint.
There are
a few distinct parts of this restaurant – from comfy battered sofa’s to high
bar stools, intimate areas for couples to long dining tables for large groups
and a narrow alfresco balcony with foosball table and murals. The fact that it
has a platform to showcase local and upcoming talent in both art and music
scene is commendable.
Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed and asked for our seating
preference. We chose to sit outside in the terrace area, and Darko and the rest
of the staff ensured that the door was always closed to drown out the music.
Tribeca
is committed to organic produce wherever possible and I loved the simplicity of
their menus – paper pinned to a piece of cardboard with a clothes peg. Using recycled building
materials wherever possible displays Tribeca’s commitment to global
sustainability.
The bar features all the classic beverages as well as organic wines and signature cocktail options.

We ordered
the Jamaican Bolt and Nutty professor. The Jamaican Bolt was served in a totem mug topped with a flaming passion fruit. I love theatrics especially with
food and this was the highlight of our evening. For those who love cream based
drinks, Nutty professor would be a good choice. I shifted to Eminem and loved it.
The Black
Cod Ceviche was a surprise in itself. First glance and I thought it would lack the
needed taste to satiate my Indian Palate. I took the first bite and it was
bland. But for the second one I scooped it up from further within and was in
for a surprise of citrusy flavors, ginger, a dash of chilli, avocado and coriander
and mint stood out as well. The combination of crispy corn tortillas along with
the tangy cod was a winner. It’s a must have.
Chicken
tacos was served on a long tray with three portions. The fact that the tacos
were wiped off in minutes are proof as to how appetizing they were. The
marinated chicken breast, cabbage, pineapple relish and chipotle mayo wrapped in
soft tacos were a treat to the stomach. The spices were just perfect, my only
complaint is that serving 3 portions would definitely create a food fight between two people.
Darko
recommended that we try the nachos and so we did. I’m so glad that we didn’t miss
out on these. Tortilla chips were loaded with angus beef, cheddar cheese,
jalapeno, olives, sour cream and guacamole. You should have it before it runs
cold.
The
Salmon portion is a little too big, so I was upset I couldn’t finish it all.
However, I enjoyed the crispy skin and the fact that the salmon was perfectly
cooked, it tasted so good with the carrot and thyme puree. Apple and walnut
salad on the side was just the perfect addition to complete the dish. Overall,
it’s definitely a must try, if you like salmon as I do.
I was
surprised we could still had space for dessert post our massive feast. For dessert
we had the deconstructed NY cheese cake and S’mores.
Deconstructed
cheesecake was a treat to the eyes and our palate. Steamed cheese cake was served
on black slab with almond crumble and passion fruit puree. It was downright
delectable. We devoured it right away.
The S’mores
were a bit of too many elements and somehow not all of it went well together.
It was served in a skittle with a brownie topped with coconut marshmallow,
dulce de leche, caramel chocolate, peanut butter, popcorn crumble, raspberry
jam and caprice cookies. For those who love a lot in their dessert, this is a
good option.
The vibe
of this place, along with the warm friendly staff coupled with live music and
amazing food makes this a place to unwind post work. The staff is attentive, enthusiastic
and knowledgeable.
If you are looking for a place to unwind over some good
healthy food, fun ambiance and live entertainment, then Tribeca is the place
for you.
