Eat Healthy at Kad Che

Kad Ché is a cute quaint café located Downtown Dubai in the Bay Square blocks. Kad che in Arabic slang translates to ‘bite’ and it goes true with its name. You can bite into their healthy and innovative dishes and drink some fabulous coffee.

The quirky café overlooks the fountain in Bay Square. The interiors are a pop of lush green amidst the black and yellow seating and industrial vibes. I love how the lights are hung using ropes. It’s a very relaxing and quiet environment. For anyone stationed behind a laptop at work, this would be a pretty perfect place to spend a working day.

It has both indoor and outdoor seating. But with the present weather, outdoors isn’t a viable option.

The creative menu has a wide range of salads, sandwiches and desserts made from fresh organic ingredients to select from – from kale salad to pasta. There really is something for everyone.

Their signature drinks are one that shouldn’t be missed. I tried their charcoal latte, tropical bliss & black lemonade. And they were all equally amazing.

We started off with Charcoal latte. it was just the perfect way to begin our brunch. This one is a must have and is very refreshing.

The fresh kale salad, is exactly how ‘healthy food’ should look like – appetizing, colorful and fresh. It was served in a huge bowl with generous servings of kale, baby spinach, papaya, green apple, tofu and strawberry with lime and mustard seed dressing and topped with shredded coconut. This salad was fresh, delectable and we kept going back for more.

For our mains we ordered the Waffle Chicken and Eggs Benedict.

Waffle chicken was a treat to one’s eye and palate. Baked crispy chicken was placed on a bed of spinach and waffle and topped with a sunny side egg. It was scrumptious and filling.

Smoked salmon is delicately placed on grilled burger buns and topped with eggs benedict accompanied by salad. This was just a perfect balance of carbs, protein and greens.

More drinks like tropical bliss and black lemonade, were ordered to quench our thirst.

We finished with Halaweh Brownie. The gooey chocolaty brownie is almost impossibly to put down. it's topped with pistachios and halaweh, giving it a little extra bite. It was delectable.

The food is delectable and it’s perfect for those looking at a healthy alternative. It doesn’t deprive you as is the norm with healthy food. The service is impeccable and so is the vibe.
Erica was extremely helpful and patient and assisted us with selecting our dishes.

It is absolutely a very cute place to add on your list of coffee shop/local restaurant to dine at.

The Brunch Affair at BarBary

Opened in December 2017, Barbary Dubai located in Tryp, Barsha is one of the places that transport you to a different era with its vibe and ambiance (an edgy Parisian one).

The brainchild of Montreal gastropreneur, Joey Ghazal (the man behind The Maine Oyster Bar & Grill), BARBARY is inspired by the great clandestine Parisian bars of the 1930s with its wooden floorboards, cushy mid-century inspired sofas, loud music, checkered terrazzo tiles, red velvet curtains, crystal chandeliers and dim lace lamps, giving the space a unique opulence.

You get the sexy chill vibes early on with the entrance neon “Adults only” sign.

All of it combines to make the perfect place to settle in for a hearty meal with lots and lots of drinks.

There’s a huge long table at the centre, which is perfect for big groups, and a gorgeous bar with all manner of adults-only liquids on offer. The long endless windows had an old world charm in itself, one that I couldn’t get enough of.

Keep walking through the bar area and you will find a red wall emblazoned with ‘Hotel Amour’ and a semi-open kitchen.

I was invited for “The Brunch Affair” that starts at 12 and goes until 5.  I love brunches that aren’t rushed, and this was just perfect. We were given a set menu for the disco brunch. Apart from the food, I was most excited to try the ‘Build a bary’

Bary is Bloody Mary’s brother and also has pickle, carrot, celery, jalapeño cheese tomato, and ham all inside the drink - yes, I’m not even kidding you. Show me anywhere else in town where there is a build your own Bloody Mary tower.  Im not talking about Bloody Mary stations. By controlling what you make, there’s a fun level of involvement I think other brunches might want to copy.

The starters had me at hello. My favorites of the lot were the mac and cheese balls, steak tartare and French toast. The French toast was crispy, light and fluffy and not drowning in syrup (yes, thank you).  I definitely wanted more of them.

For the mains we ordered the Shakshouka and the Barbary Burger. The Shakshouka in my opinion could have been way better and it isn’t something I’d come back for. The burger didn’t stand out for a comeback either. The mains were a bit disappointing personally.

We finished off our brunch with the chef special dessert, which didn’t excite my palate. Cinnamon cake topped with whipped cream and glazed walnuts (no, thank you).

There was a large group celebrating a birthday, and that may have caused delay in the service. The place could do so much better with better service. We did have to wait a lot and personally I love for cutlery to be changed post every course, without having to ask them too.
We did change our seating to a the plush sofas post our starters, and waited endlessly to have the water placed on our table, along with tissues. So service wise it was really slow.
The Brunch is priced at AED299 for three ‘courses’ and unlimited alcohol. Yes, that’s definitely a catch, with an extended time to literally relax and enjoy brunching.
BARBARY is a decorous blend of clandestine bar naughtiness with an illicit parlor feel.
