DXB Grill

Hello Gastronomes,

This post is for those who ‘LOVE FOOD’, because I’m going to talk about a place that serves amazing food and in a way that makes you feel good. I have always felt that the purpose of food is to make one happy, and DXB Grill achieves just that. The presentation, the food, service, drinks, ambiance surpassed my expectations.

As we walked in to DXB Grill located in Millennium Airport Hotel in Garhoud,  we saw an area with the produce on display, and that for a non-vegetarian is surely a delight. As we walked past to the dining area, I couldn’t not notice the contrast. From the bright entrance to the comfortably soothing lights in the dining area. It sets such a relaxed vibe. The setting is perfect especially if you are planning on a romantic dinner.

We were welcomed in by the ever smiling and polite staff to our tables and were graciously joined by Sheryl the assistant marketing manager.

As soon as we were made comfortable we were served welcome drinks. The ginger based drink was so refreshing, it was the perfect start to our evening.

For our appetizers we were highly recommended to try the Caesar salad, and on knowing my love for Sushi, we were also served the Sushi Island (or rather Sushi paradise).

Caesar salad is a personal favorite and hence I didn’t think twice before saying yes, but boy was I in for an amazing surprise. The salad was served unlike any I have ever eaten. A beautiful plate of salad (but where was the salad) was placed in front me and I was speechless (you have to see the images, I hope I have done justice to the presentation). The salad was served inside a giant crispy crouton ball, which reminded me of bature you get back in India, with grilled chicken breast placed on the side. It’s a huge portion, so I would suggest that the salad be shared.

You have to break through to see the luscious romaine lettuce drenched in Caesar dressing. It was pure foodgasm. The chicken was perfectly cooked and juicy and the Caesar salad pumped me up for the rest of the evening.

Sushi Island was Sushi paradise for those who love Sushi. With a wide selection of sushi and sashimi, it just made me only ‘sea’ food.

For the main course we ordered DXB Grill Beef Tenderloin and Canadian Lobster. I can’t choose which I loved more. I can’t be ‘shellfish’ either and hence both the main course dishes were hands down delectable.

Steak was served along with mashed potatoes, jus, garlic, cherry tomatoes and grilled vegetables. We were later on offered salt (6 different types) in case we wanted to season the steak.

The steak was juicy and divine. The jus was just perfect, mashed potatoes were creamy and luscious and had just that hint of garlic. I dived into my steak and didn’t share at all.

Both my colleague and Sheryl opted for Canadian Lobster, and on tasting I realized why it’s such a hit.  It was served with buttered asparagus, and waffle potatoes.

For dessert we ordered not one, but three different desserts – Chocolate lava (no prizes for guessing whose choice this was), Nutella and Marshmallow heaven and raspberry vanilla parfait. But the surprise of the evening for chocoholic me was the Raspberry parfait.

Though the parfait was initially neglected, it kept catching my attention as it was a vibrant red and was presented like a Christmas tree. With the beautiful reds and greens. I loved how it melted in my mouth and left a heavenly aftertaste.

Both the chocolate lava and Nutella marshmallow couldn’t distract me from my parfait. I would highly recommend you try the parfait. But of course if you love chocolate you have many options.

If you are looking for a restaurant has a unique concept of flavors, casual ambience, enticing a la’carte choices and a soothing pool view, then DXB Grill is your best choice.

Moombai & Co.

Moombai & Co is the newest addition to The H Hotel. Moombai & Co Café and Bar effortlessly blends in the magic of Bombay in the 1950’s where Irani- Parsi Café’s flourished with modern day Dubai.

Parsi cafés are well-known in Mumbai and were established by Persian settlers in the 19th century, who would gather in the evenings and chat over chai and bun maska (bread and butter).

The décor and the furniture looked straight out of a Parsi café in Bombay with ceiling fans, exposed brick, mahogany furniture, Italian marble tabletops, bent cane chairs, pendulum wall clocks and the highlight for me - the photo booth rickshaw.

Vibrant old Hindi Film Posters, famous dialogues, memorabilia, cutlery and classic music of 70’s and 80’s sets the mood for a Bombay styled experience. Moombai & Co. is colorful and quirky. Some really fun lines adorn the walls and the menu along with classic Hindi film posters. Cool props. Packs in a punch!

The restaurant is really beautiful and it took us some time to soak it all in. Being a Bombayite, this place evoked a lot of wonderful memories. As soon as we were seated comfortably we were handed the menu which had a wonderful spread of Parsi cuisine with some interesting names. Whether you are a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian, the menu offers everything. To match their inimitable concept, Moombai’s food holds up to their reputation and with a range of drinks, you’re left tangled for what not to order.

As we were contemplating on our drinks, we were suggested to try the Masala Ice Gola, and how could we refuse. The taste took me back to the golas you would find on Juhu beach. Tasty with the right amount of masala and Kala Khatta.

We were also served popadams and chutneys, which was just the perfect way to start one's meal.

For my drinks I opted for PK hai Kya, which was refreshing and just the perfect cocktail I needed. My friend opted for Chandan ka sharbat.

A refreshing Khatta Roohafza was served as a palate cleanser

For starters we ordered Hari mirch ka jinga and Chaap lababdar. The thecha styled prawns with a ground chilly mix was the highlight for me. Smoky flavor coupled with the spicy masala ensured a burst of flavors. It was served on a bed of raw onions and green chutney.

I don’t usually eat mutton and was sure I wouldn’t eat it here either, however the aroma that filled my senses when the Chaap lababdar was bought in did leave make me inquisitive of its flavor. Since my friend loved it, I tried a nibble first and then ate an entire piece which definitely was a huge change. The masala, the smoked meat was so delicious, I didn’t want it to get over at all.

My drink was replenished with the recommended Aunties chai martini. My initial reaction towards the mix of chai and martini was off shock and also I wanted to see how chai and alcohol would taste together. Am I glad I tried the chai martini, it was ‘Jhakaas’. I loved how the menu is so out of the box and the varied options that you can choose from.

For our mains we opted for Patra ni machi, Saali Murghi with rice and roti as accompaniments. I don’t know why dikra, but the name Patra ni machi sounds good if only said with the Parsi accent. Patra ni machi is fish marinated in masala and steamed wrapped in banana leaf. The banan leaf accentuates the flavors of the fish and If you are a south Indian, you definitely wouldn’t want to miss this one.

Saali Murghi is a simple yet tasty homemade chicken curry served with straw potatoes. Even though the food is "home style" and "street style", the presentation is an extension of quirky chic. Lots of earthernware and brassware.

I also had the Nimbu Paani which had a touch of jal jeera added to it giving it a tangy taste
You know the joyride has come to an end when they ask you to order for dessert. We ordered the classic caramel custard and chocolate pudding with berry sauce.

Anything that says classic definitely should live up to the expectations, and the Caramel custard did just that. It was just perfect and melted in the mouth. I love chocolate, but not combined with berries, hence I ate the chocolate pudding minus the berry sauce as it wasn’t something that suited my palate.

The service is excellent, the staff is so pleasant and I love the way they take care of all their guests, I was lucky to be there during a birthday celebration. The staff makes it so special with Dhol and air horns. I'd recommend this one to everyone who has a little bit of Bollywood in them, a little bit of that throwback vibe in them self, and if you still don't fall in love with Moombai, PK hai Kay?

Moombai and co is comfort food + Bollywood – such a win win

Here's Why Everyone Is Talking About Sugar Cosmetics Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick.

Hello,

I'll be reviewing Sugar Cosmetics Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick, in shade Brazen Raisin.

Brazen Raisin: Looking to announce every entry of yours without saying a word? Up your lip game to bold burgundy with the Brazen Raisin shade that’s as addictive as it is badass!

Packaging

The packaging is exactly like the Maybelline Color Sensational Velvet Matte lipsticks Lip Polish. It is transparent with a black cap and the clear product inside in the shape of a lipstick bullet at the end. The shade name and number is mentioned at the bottom of the tube. It has an extra outer packaging with product details printed on it.

The wand is slightly small and not doe foot, but that help in being precise on the corners though. You do not get a lot of product in one dip as the dispensing hole is narrow and you may have to dip twice to cover the lips well. The lipstick tube is tiny and lightweight and easily fits into any pocket.

Texture:

It has a faint vanilla scent which is quite nice. Formula wise, it is super pigmented and neither runny nor too mousey which gives a very smooth and even application. It takes about 30-40 seconds to dry completely and once set, it won’t budge or move. Though I can feel the lipsticks drying on my lips as there is slight stretchy feel. However, after few more minutes lips gets used to it and they wear comfortably. Once dry it sets a transfer-proof finish. And then there is absolutely no smudging, or fading hours. The lipstick is here to stay!

These are drying and you need exfoliated, moisturized lips for using these. If you have very dry lips, these would accentuate the dryness even more.

Experience:

The lipstick has a very mild, almost unnoticeable sweet fragrance that shouldn’t bother anyone. It has liquid consistency, but once applied on the lips, it dries quickly and settles into complete matte finish and that’s why I would suggest you to apply a good lip balm underneath. Even better if you can exfoliate your lips before applying the lipstick.

The lipstick glides smoothly on the lips. The applicator is really nice, it helps in smooth and even application. The lipstick feels very lightweight on the lips and once set, it just won’t move. The pigmentation is again amazing as you’d need only one swipe for full opaque coverage. The liquid lipsticks sets to a flat matte finish within 30-40 seconds.

These lipsticks are really long lasting.  They won’t go anywhere for as long as 7-8 hours. But just like other liquid lipsticks, they do fade from the inner center of the lips with and talking. If you don’t exfoliate your lips they tend to start flaking. Overall, they look pretty good on lips even after hours of wear. And the reapplication is also smooth, so in case you want to revive the fresh lipstick application after food just reapplies! Removing these liquid lipsticks will require good oil based makeup remover because the formula just hugs the lips.
