Carnival by Tresind

Where do I even begin!

I have been seeing Carnival by Tresind all over Instagram, and was highly intrigued with their concept of molecular gastronomy and serving food with theatrics!

Needless to say I was thrilled when I received an invite for their season 2 menu.

Starting this year, Carnival launched their Season 2 menu. Carnival by Tresind presents a twist on traditional Indian cuisine. It’s rightly called a ‘gastronomical journey’. The menu at Carnival by Tresind successfully executes a refreshing twist on India’s favorite dishes. The menu is comforting and is yet fearless and experimental. The balance of flavors and textures along with the distinctive showmanship makes this a place to visit.

The moment you push open the doors to carnival, you feel enchanted. It feels like as though you have opened the doors to a different portal altogether. The entrance is lined with shiny colored balls on either ends, and it leads you to a black and white floor with rainbow colored furniture. What stood out were the trees in metallic bronze reaching skywards, accompanied by rose gold polygon mirrors. At the rear is a tunnel-like bar illuminated in fluorescent blue, with custom made bottled glass ceiling at the open bar.

No sooner you make yourself comfortable than the server welcomes you a toy in hand and showers you with soap bubbles. Not only is it fun but also It evokes many childhood memories and helps you to loosen up. You realize that It’s just the beginning of magic that is yet to unfold.

If you didn’t grow up in India, specifically Bombay, a lot of the dishes won't mean much to you, as was the case with my husband. However the servers set down every plate with a detailed explanation of its background – which was very fascinating to hear.

We were hosted by Terry, who was not only very enthusiastic but also explained all the dishes in detail.

Our meal began with Chutney Sandwich. For those unfamiliar with Chutney Sandwich – it’s a popular street food in Bombay that comprises of mint chutney spread lavishly in toasted indian bread (pav). It was served within the palms of a porcelain hand, maybe to reiterate that the dish has to be eaten with hands as is essentially done in India.

We were served PINK Pani Puri (yes, PINK) along with the chatni sandwich.  Pani puri doesn’t really need an introduction. The puri is dyed a vibrant pink using and the pani mixture is sweetened with pomegranate as opposed to the usual tamarind. Either have the puri, and drink the pani like a shot (as done by my husband) or stick with the traditional way of  pouring pani into the puri and eating it in one go to get a stunning hit of flavors.

To quench our thirst, I opted for a cocktail with Vodka base, and my husband ordered for passion fruit mock tail. My drink was served in a teacup, and it was such a different experience to drink cocktail out of a tea cup which was served with dried petals that had a distinctive taste to it.

Later I did order for Litchi mock tail as well – between both passion fruit and Litchi  - I would definitely go back again for Passion fruit mock tail which was both refreshing and tasted ahmazing.

Post Pink Puri we were served with the popular Dahi vada, but with the Tresind twist. Yogurt snow was topped with sweetened yogurt and topped with pomegranate seeds, boondi, ginger and was generously dusted with chaat masala. Terry waited patiently till we were done clicking pictures and mixed it up for us to eat.

Our next dish was aptly called Into the Wild. The dish is inspired by ancient culinary techniques where hot stones were used to cook food. A heated slab of Himalayan rock salt is wheeled towards the table and strips of beef and prawns are placed on it. No additional seasoning or spices are added while cooking. The meat is cooked on the slab and is served with chilli and garlic mix based on your spice level, along with toasted Indian bread (pav).

Our next serve was inspired by the northern part of India and its Chinese influence. We were served with Dragon Chicken. Chicken topped with coriander wrapped in wai wai noodles,  flame cooked on the table and served alongside chilled cucumber. The plate was a wonderful mix of flavours, the chilled cucumber along with the chicken was indeed a surprise to the palate.

Next was a popular appetizer from Punjab called Wenger’s, a kebab based dish named after a popular shop in Delhi as mentioned by Terry. The plate was visually striking with shammi beef kebab served alongside boiled egg and topped with salad.

Next up arrived a sous-vide beef which was served in a hot eye shaped marble pot. I didn’t expect the plate to be hot since it looked more like a cold salad – perceptions can be deceiving at Carnival. The beef was served with sesame seeds and stock and topped with salad. Not one of my favorite items.

We were then served Strawberry Murabba as a palate cleanser.

When I saw the main course, I realized why we needed a palate cleanser.  It was a more traditional approach to Indian cuisine. It included Jhinga La La (prawn in delicious gravy) served with appam, Homestyle chicken curry served with butter naan and Lamb kofta. My favorite was homestyle chicken curry. Though I’m a sea food lover I kept going back to the chicken curry.

Dessert was another session of exciting theatrics – Fruit Salad as is the norm is served with custard and fruits, but at Carnival an ice cream is made combining a variety of fresh fruits  at the table using liquid nitrogen. It’s served in a frozen husk of a watermelon and topped with a mango and raspberry gel.

When I was digging into the Fruit custard we were interrupted to be introduced to Milk and Cookies. It was served out of a table top oven, the ‘cake’ is topped with cookies, hot caramel sauce, sour raspberries and yummy cinnamon ice cream and the combination of it all is simply amazing.

I was in for a surprise when I saw a beautiful tree like presentation of thinner version, of chikki. For those who are relatively new to that word its sesame and jaggery tulle.  Along with that we were served two packets of Fatafat (whattt). I was so excited when I saw ‘fatafat’ as I recently had a conversation about the same with my husband, and couldn’t find it in stores. Fatafat is an Ayuverdic digestive aid which would definitely be needed post a meal at Carnival.

Carnival did evoke a lot of memories right from the very beginning to the end. It felt like a blockbuster hindi film with the perfect amount of drama, romance and nostalgia to take back home. The unique and quirky delivery, wide selection of nostalgia inducing dishes for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians, prompt service and fun ambiance makes Carnival stand out.

There’s an unprecedented level of service and attention to details. From tables being cleaned after each course and cutlery and plates being laid out promptly to the chef coming and actively seeking feedback. It all shows how important it is for customer collaboration and feedback.

They also host a business lunch buffet at AED 80, with a wide array of choices. And if you are looking for some spectacular dishes with excellent showmanship for your private parties, then Carnival is your best bet.

With a happy hour that runs from 5pm – 8pm daily and dishes still left to try. I eagerly await my next trip to the Carnival for more nostalgia, excitement and adventures.

Review - Polished Spa

Hello lovelies!!

I’m positively thrilled to share my experience with Polished Spa.

Polished Spa is located in Muweilih, Sharjah. Sharjah is a place that keeps surprising me often.

The staff at Polished, followed up with session, as I most often had to keep postponing it. Not only were they very helpful but also very polite and understanding.

I booked in for a session on Friday at 11:00 a.m. they sent me a confirmation e-mail with the timing’s and inquired if I did know of the location the previous day.  I received a call an hour prior to my appointment.  I informed them that I was running late (It was a friyay!), and they accommodated my lazy late ass as well.

Spoiler alert: I saw the Spa (the board) and was super excited. I was dropped right in front of the spa, and when I walked towards it I saw a flex covered door that mentioned spa timings et all. I ignored that, walked past it and went to, ‘my idea of how a spa entrance should look like’ and went and tried opening the closed door of a men’s salon.

Disappointed, I went back to the flex area and saw what appeared to be a door (honestly, I just wanted to run back), and pushed it open. The stark contrast hit me really hard and I just felt Harry Potter having entered station 9 3/4 for the first time. It was magical, peaceful and every synonym I could possibly use for repose.

This is where ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ plays on repeat in your mind.

The place was so quiet and calming. I’m not sure if it was the ambiance, music or the friendly staff or probably a mix of all. It seemed like a place where time stood still and all that mattered was how you, as a customer was made to feel.

I was warmly welcomed in by the front office staff and made to sit comfortably to fill in a form with personal details/health issues/allergies etc. I was also served their special ginger tea in the cutesiest cup ware ever. Ask for the ginger tea – you won’t regret it. The ginger tea does calm your senses and is very relaxing and more importantly – it’s delicious!

I was then shown the changing room, and was provided the most comfiest warm robe with osho slippers and a ‘one size fits all’ undergarment.

I was ushered to my massage room for my ‘Beyond Bali’ massage. The Beyond Bali, is a medium to deep pressure massage that originated in the island of Bali, Indonesia. The therapists use traditional massage techniques along with deep stretching to bring oxygen to the muscles and stiff joints. My masseuse, Lastri is a native of Bali. She was soft spoken and ensured that I was completely comfortable.

The session started with a foot wash, with your feet submerged in luke - warm water infused with lavender scented Himalayan salt. It was such a delicate yet soothing massage that I knew I was in good hands.

Post that I was shown the massage table and was asked to lie down with my head firmly placed in the face rest facing a bowl of scented dried flowers. I was asked for my level of comfort with regards to the light, music and how strong I liked my massage. I could feel my eyes shutting down, as I had an early day and suddenly my senses were awakened with the scent of lavender. I opened my eyes to see Lastri running her palms beneath my face and I realized the source of the aroma. It lulled me back to sleep (lol).

A hot compress was placed on my back, and she gently started applying warm oil on my leg and started massaging it. I wanted to keep a track of all steps involved, but I just gave up to her expert hands and enjoyed every bit of my massage session.  I woke up when she asked me change sides and then went back to that trance like relaxation state. I could feel all my stress knots easing up, and I could feel my body relaxing with every passing minute.

Lastri finished the session with combination of face and head massage and a fabulous shoulder massage. I didn’t want the session to end at all, it was pure euphoria!

Just like all good things, my massage also came to an end (sigh). However, what I loved about them was that they weren’t time bound, they were customer satisfaction bound. They didn’t hurry up the procedure just to fit it in the 60 min or 90 min time frame.

They didn’t rush you with changing or with relaxing – It’s a spa experience like never before. Polished Spa in my opinion was more customer and experience oriented, as opposed to commercial Spa’s.

Apart from their amazing Spa-rience, they also provide a full range of treatments from Facials to Morroccan Bath, Hair and Nail services.  One of their famous treatments is the Coconut and Aloe Vera Hair treatments. Both Coconut oil and Aloe Vera juice is fresh and organic. The coconut oil is freshly pressed by the therapists themselves.

Girls, if you are reading this – Book an appointment right now, trust me you will love it.
Guys, book a session for the women in your life – and they will love you for that.

Polished Spa is a place that provides a complete head to toe package and services.

They absolutely stay true to - Stay Pretty. Stay Perfect. Stay Polished.

Rajasthan Al Malakhi

My Love affair with Rajasthani food started way back when I was in school. I distinctly remember wolfing down daal bhaati made by my friend’s mom. When I received an invite from Rajasthan Royal to try out their Thali, it just took me back to those gastronomic memories. Needless to say I was really excited and was looking forward to a wonderful experience.

Rajasthan Al Malaki offers vegetarian food from the state of Rajasthan in India. It is a restaurant that serves Rajasthani Thali. For those who are relatively new to the concept of thali - The word Thali translates to plate, specifically referring to a round stainless plate with little bowls consisting of a wide variety of dishes. Appetizers, main course and dessert is served together. In India, each and every state has its own Thali based on its regional cuisine. Many places offer 2 kinds of Thali- vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

Rajasthan Al Malakhi follows a similar concept of Thali – wherein an empty thali is placed on the table and the moment you sit, the servers will start hovering around you to place food in the empty thali. On weekends they have special thali- Royal Thali. All their thalis are served with Chaas or Flavored Indian buttermilk. It is a nice way to digest a large meal.

Our thali meal included – weekend special – dal bhatti with churma. Starters - dahi vada, kachori and sandwich dhokla. 4 types of curry – paneer maharani, aloo matar, jaipuri gotta, and green vegetables. 3 types of dal – rajasthani dal, sweet dal and rajasthani kadi. 3 types of roti – mini phulka’s served generously with ghee, puri and jowar roti. 2 types of rice – tawa pulao and moong khichdi. 2 desserts – malpua (fried generously in desi ghee) and apple basundi. The accompaniments included mix salad, papad, pickle and chutney.

So ready to be filled

Dahi Vada

Dal bhatti and churma was amazing, it reminded me of the dal bhatti made by my friend’s mom. I wanted . A Rajasthani meal is incomplete without Dal Batti Churma. Deep fried Batti, slightly spicy dal and semi-sweet Churma made a perfect combination. Dahi vada was just perfect – it melts in your mouth and is a burst of flavors that titillate your senses (foodgasm). Both Kachori and sandwich dhokla failed to impress my palate.

Starters

Daal Bhatti

kachori

Paneer Maharani was definitely the winner, you really can’t compete with paneer (cottage cheese). Cheese dumplings in perfect gravy was the hit for both me and my husband. Dal has always been my favorite and needless to say all 3 dals were yum. For someone who is new to north Indian kadi, the kadi can be a bit overpowering. However, those who love their kadi’s with gram flour dumplings would definitely love the kadi served here. Rajasthani kadi is a specialty of Rajasthani cuisine - it is cooked gram flour dumpling with a spicy curd gravy.

Yummy sabzi

The tawa pulao was very tasty as well. Another must-try is the Khichdi. It is a simple and basic dish, prepared with rice and lentils.

Tawa Pulao and Moong dal Khichdi

For the desserts, malpua won hands down, especially the ones that were served piping hot, they just melted in your mouth. The taste of desi ghee coupled with the crunch of pistachio was addictive. Apple basundi was tasty too. However, between the two I loved the malpua’s more.

I wanted to try everything and hence nibbled onto all the dishes. The food, both quantity and quality is amazing. The servers were ever smiling and welcoming and came back ensuring we were eating and also force fed us more phulka’s.

We were also served Jowar roti with churan and ghee which was a very new experience for me, however it’s so worth trying. I wish I had a bigger appetite and that I did follow the most important rule before going to a thali joint – skip the prior meal.

Jowar Roti with churma and ghee

The menu keeps changing on a daily basis and the thali is priced at AED 30 per person which is a very good price. If you are going on weekends be sure to call ahead and book your table. The place is PACKED. It goes to say about the quality and taste of the food. The restaurant has its own loyal patrons who come back often to enjoy authentic Rajasthani cuisine.

The service was very good. The pricing is very reasonable and affordable. Rajasthan Al Malaki serves delicious, authentic and tasty Rajasthani food.

Danesh (ever smiling and always ready to help)

The only drawback was the size of the restaurant, it did look and feel a bit cramped.

Apart from the restaurant they also have catering and tiffin/mess services. So all those who enjoy having north Indian vegetarian food everyday can call them on the below mentioned number and place an order. For large gatherings, parties do contact them for authentic North Indian food.

Cuisine – Indian, North Indian, Vegetarian
Cost - AED 60 for two people
Location – Behind DPS Sharjah, Muwailih, Sharjah
Timings – 6:00 a.m. to 23:00 p.m.

Why you need Mediterranean by Elizabeth Arden right now!

I have yet to find a perfume from Elizabeth Arden that I dislike. It started with Mediterranean. I was first introduced to this perfume in one of those promotional kiosks in a mall in Bombay. I have always been more of a body mist than perfume person. The fact that the mist doesn’t weigh you down was always a plus.

Mediterranean is a feminine perfume by Elizabeth Arden, launched in 2007

Since I was in school, my parents decided that perfume wasn’t a requirement. We got 2 vials with the perfume and I kept one of them with me.

Two years later, I found the vial – empty, however it was still fragrant. My love affair with Mediterranean started that very moment. Not only was it long lasting but it also smelled amazing. It wasn’t super strong and that definitely was a plus.

The smell was rustic yet flirty and lasted for a good 8 hours.

The bottle was a cerulean glass with hammered silver cap. I wasn’t aware of notes until recently. I instantly checked for Mediterranean’s notes to know what was it about this bottle that attracted me towards it.

The exotic quality comes from Madagascar orchid, wisteria and Star magnolia, with light finishes of peach, Sicilian mandarin and the beautifully named Damask Plum. Amber, sandal wood and musk were the base note.

The Sandalwood and Amber add a spicy, woodsy quality, which nicely balances the fruits and exotic florals. Everything combines to create a delicate scent that evokes sunshine, summer and adventure.

This is the sort of perfume that quietly invites you in rather than being powerful and overt. If you are like me and don't strong strong scented perfumes, however want them to last long, then you should definitely try this.

What's your favorite perfume???

Blingtastic - Hot Soles London

Hello Shoe lovers!

I was recently familiarized with Hot Soles London, courtesy Namshi. Unless you live under a rock, you already know of Namshi. Namshi is that one place destination for everything ahmazing. You have all brands under one roof and the best part – it’s unisex.

I saw this beautiful block heel shoes, while browsing through Namshi, and I just knew ‘we were meant to be’. It was everything perfect and blingtastic. I’m a bling obsessed individual, and I love it in all forms. Clothes, shoes, bags, accessories etc.

I ordered for this Silver block heels from Hot Soles London. I had never heard of the brand before nor did I know anyone who had, but them shoes were literally calling out to me and I just knew they were going be perfect.

As soon as I received my order I checked for the shoes, and they just shone back brightly at me. I felt relieved, and was super excited. After I had my moment with them, I tried them on and they fit like a glove. Walking in them was super comfortable and were pain free as well, since they were open end shoes.

The material used is synthetic with a glossy finish. It has an Ankle strap with pin-buckle closure. Cushioned footbed provides added comfort while Glitter embellished block heel adds height with style. Sturdy synthetic outsole offers durability

I walked in them, danced, posed, pirouetted in them and then wore them for the ultimate test. The test to see as to when they crack me, and I just feel like taking them off.

I wore these beauties for New Year’s, and walked, danced climbed stairs in them. They didn’t hurt one bit. It was almost like wearing flip flops, but the kinds that inch you closer to heaven.

Every time I glanced down at them, I could see them shining back at me, assuring me that they had my feet.

I wore these beauties for over 6 hours, and post that the balls of my feet started aching. But I wore them for a good 6-6.5 hours without even realizing that I'm wearing heels, and that is the most awesome part about these heels.

I’m not sure of all shoes from the brand, but these guys are so comfy yet glam!. No shoe bites, no blisters or sores. Just two aching feet that’s too tired of dancing.

Do I recommend them? ABSONFREAKINLUTELY.
Will I but another pair from the same brand? HELL YEA

Hello Lovelies!

Mornings are better when you enjoy a cup of coffee with a good crunchy sandwich. It just sets your mood for work.  However, I always wish it was as easiy as it sounds. Waking up to make traditional breakfasts like Idli, dosa, chapatti etc are really time consuming and super hectic.

To make the morning process simple the best way was to invest in a sandwich maker. You don’t have to skip breakfast and can eat it on your way to work. If you want to make different types of sandwiches, then you need to get a sandwich maker at home.

You will be pleasantly surprised at the types of sandwich maker available in the market today. The best way to go for it would be to stick to brand names and sticking to a budget. I take pleasure in introducing Elekta 4 slice Sandwich Grill Maker in this post for all your requirement.

It has been engineered with state of the art technology that verily shows in the design. The indicators only add to this and what makes it elegant is the detailing. Moreover, it’s super compact and can be stored easily.

The use of non-stick plates for grill certainly makes it cook faster and evenly on both sides. The diagonal indentation is a way to make slices of the bread for convenient cooking.

The use of non-stick plates makes cleaning up a breeze. You can simply use a soft cotton cloth or a nylon scouring pad with a mild detergent to clean this appliance.

There is a red light to show the power connection to the grill and the green light to indicate the sandwich is ready. This helps you on any confusion of when to switch it off the grill.

Each triangular sandwich is a wholesome dish, and you can serve to at least four people at a time. Of course, you are free to make more.

Elekta Lady shaver & Epilator

Hello lovelies!

I’m so excited to share my experience with you. I have been using epilators for some years now, and I couldn’t be more relieved and happy that I made that switch from traditional hair removal methods.

You may have happily ignored epilators in the shopping aisles, but im hoping that this post will change your perception towards them. We are going to quickly understand what an epilator is, what features you should look for while buying an epilator and most importantly how to use it.

An epilator is a compact device that removes hairs from its roots. A bunch of hair is removed with a single pass as tweezers rotate and pull the hair from its roots. The best part - you can have smooth skin for two weeks or up to a month!

Epilation is not only a cheaper alternative to hair removal, but also an effective method. After extended usage, fewer hairs grow and, most importantly, they grow thinner. In the beginning you may take almost the similar amount of time that you spend at your salon, however over time you may just take 40 minutes tops.

Epilators can be either dry or wet or a combination of both. If you are starting off or have very low resistance to pain. I would suggest getting a wet epilator as you can use it under the shower where pores are open thus easing the pain.

Using an epilator is incredibly simple. Anyone can do it and that’s why I truly recommend these devices as the optimal way of getting smooth skin. Just move it slowly at a 90 degrees angle against the direction in which the hair is growing. Will it hurt, yes! But if you are used to waxing then the pain won’t even bother you!

While buying an epilator, do check for the following features:

1. The most important and basic thing that an epilator does is to remove hair from its roots, and not just the surface. Hence, it’s important to check for epilators that come with tweezers. The more tweezers it has, the less time each epilation session will take.

2. Hygiene: Check the cleaning method involved. It’s different for wet and dry epilators.

3. Accessories
a) An efficiency cap is something I always want to find in the box because, trust me, it eases on the pain a little and it makes the entire hair removing process more comfortable.

b) There are all sorts of accessories like cooling gloves and massaging heads, having the same purpose: making the pain less intense. However, always use the cooling glove after epilation not before or during.

c) Built-in light ensures that you won’t miss any hairs.

 d) Number of speeds, usually two. There are few epilators who have just one speed.

e) Corded or cordless (rechargeable or battery operable).

Considering all the above features, I will try to describe the perfect hair removal device for me. Maybe it will help you figuring out what you need and want. The best epilator for me is quite a basic device with 2 speeds, efficiency cap, built in light and cordless.

For me the epilator from Elekta was hence a good choice. It comes in with all the mentioned features along with a massage head which eases pain especially when it comes to cleaning your lady parts.

I love the charging console (not sure what it’s actually called) as it allows me to rest the epilator while charging.

Most of the eplialors available in the market have the same features. What sets them apart are the accessories that they come with.

You will be pretty surprised to learn that it only costs AED 60. You can check it HERE , you can check other options HERE

Much Love!
