Arabesque Market Night at Danat Al Ain

If you love seafood and plan on going for dinner at Arabesque, then Thursday’s is your best day. They have a Market night and it’s seafood in abundance. From cooked seafood to raw one’s displayed on a platter for you to select.

There were sushi’s and maki rolls (my fav), and they were just fabulous. I have fallen in love with sushi/maki that is served with cooked meat and I can just keep eating it forever. There were crab and fish meat sushi and maki rolls and I generously topped my plate with it.

The next section was a display of seafood, soups, cold salads and it went on forever. I loved the cold salad’s. Not only were they scrumptious, but they also served as a palate cleanser for me.
There was another section completely dedicated to greens and Arabic food like hummus, baba ganoush, tabbouleh etc.

The highlight of the market night was ‘the catch’ as I like to call the display. It was a huge display of seafood  - crab, prawns, kingfish, salmon were all laid out for you to select and give the chef for it to be cooked as per your preference.

We waited for the same and ate to our hearts galore. The shrimp wre perfectly cooked and the salmon was perfect. You could taste the lemon juice used to marinate or cook the lobster and it was just juicy and tasty.

We sat for a while post the feast to pamper ourselves with dessert. Dessert was another display  - tarts, crème brulee, cakes, ice cream with different toppings, Arabic semiya, fresh fruits all eagerly called out to those with sweet tooth.

The display and presentation of each section was so beautiful that it pulled us automatically towards it. And it wasn’t just the display the food tasted delectable as well.

A special mention to the staff who were absolutely amazing and ever ready to help – typical of what you can always expect at Danat properties. They were ever ready to assist with your queries and were always around to serve patrons – Perfect example of how hospitality is and should be like.

Tanjore, Danat Al Ain

The entrance to Tanjore seems like a magical getaway. It has all the elements that connect it to Northern India in terms of décor and ambience. The door has a rustic old world charm and the moment you notice the restaurant, you seem drawn to it. Tanjore seems to be a different world in itself within Danat Al Ain.

Tanjore manages to create a low-key atmosphere. The moment you walk in you are welcomed with toran’s, which are colorful décor’s that are adorned at the entrance of most North Indian homes. The décor here mixes North India with a hint of Arabic. It’s almost traditional in places, with white walls interspersed with vibrant reds on the chairs, dim lights and colorful wall hangings. There’s some neat alcoves to sit in if you’re after a bit more privacy as well and you can also watch the chefs get busy in the kitchen, as they cook the food behind huge glass windows.

I was in for a surprise when I went through the menu as I was expecting South Indian food, as the name Tanjore is a city in South India. The menu however was a spread of North Indian and Tandoori food.

So we started off with spicy papad served with sweet mango chutney, mint chutney and tamarind sauce.

We tried Murgh Ki Yakhini shorba which was chicken broth flavoured with aromatic herbs and julienne chicken. The shorba is one of the best that I have had. It was refreshing and flavorsome and I just dug in for more.

Later we tried the Tanjore shakahaari kebab which is the chef’s assortment of vegetable kebabs – it included paneer, broccoli, mushroom etc and were succulent and melted in the mouth.

As we were a bit confused on the mains and wanted some non-veg, we were suggested to go for a Non veg kebab platter (husband was all too happy). The platter had fish, chicken and sea food.

Along with the non-veg platter we also had garlic nan and dal makhani. The nan needs a special mention of its own as it was just perfect. The butter was just as required and wasn’t dripping and it made for a good meal with Dal makhani served in a small steel bucket.

We finished our meal with Ras malai. For those who are new to Indian cuisine rasmalai is a must try, It’s cottage cheese dumplings served in saffron infused milk spiked with pistachios. I could just sit there and continue eating the ras malai.

Tanjore is the first Indian restauarnat in Al Ain and is over 27 years old. The quality of food and service is unmatched. Service is impeccable and prompt and you leave pampered and spoilt.

Loumi, Millennium Hotel | Dubai

Loumi, located in Millennium Hotel Dubai is an Arabic influenced all day dining experience offering breakfast, lunch and dinner on a daily basis. I had the distinct pleasure of joining them for their Iftar preview.

The ambiance is very simple with minimal decor and the space is used beautifully.  Arabic instrumental music in the background just made it a perfect setting. The service is prompt and the staff is very active. Our plates and cutlery were cleared as soon as we went for the next course.
The buffet was simple and fuss free, it had an extensive salad bar, sushi station (my favorite) and lots of vegetarian & non-vegetarian options. I was more than thrilled to see lemon mint juice as it’s one of my major weaknesses. It was so refreshing, and you could taste the mint layered with lemon.

I started with some great and fun options available in the salad station which had many small bites and refreshing shots. You were simply spoilt for choice in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The fresh greens were a treat to the eyes.

I loved the Arabic food section as well which had a huge variety like tabbouleh, baba ganoush, hummus to name a few.
There was an entire section dedicated to breads of all kinds – and I also did notice live preparation for the same.

The mains had some mouthwatering options. I liked the couscous with carrots and had it with chicken curry and fish caprese. There were many Indian options like Dal and steamed rice as well.

The highlight for me was the Dessert section – there were endless choices – from fresh fruit cakes to fresh fruit, Indian sweets to Arabic sweets. You name it, they had it all. I was simply in sugar heaven and didn’t know where to start. I tried the fresh fruits cake which just melted away in your mouth – now that’s sugar heaven.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Iftar preview. Not only was the food sumptuous but also the ambience that provided the required privacy to enjoy one’s meal.

LOVE IS

Marasea Market Night

I’m on a sea food diet, I see food and I eat it.

Marasea offers a seafood experience and is located in Sheraton Sharjah Beach Resort & Spa. On inquiring further about the name, I was told that Marasea is Arabic for Marina. Marasea takes a modern approach to Sharjah’s fishing tradition and serves its patron’s with its fresh catch which explains the taste. Hence, the menu changes on a daily basis.

The moment you step out of the elevator to Marasea, you are greeted by their friendly staff dressed in a qipao, and you are shown into the restaurant. The staff is very attentive, pleasant and are always tending to the needs of the visitors.

The center piece designed to resemble a ship doesn’t go unnoticed at all. The restaurant is on fleek with its ambience – dim lights, and soothing oriental music keeps you company while you get mesmerized by the wide platter that’s offered from different Asian countries. From Tokyo to Peking, they have it all covered. Authentic Asian food from different countries infused with different flavors tingle your senses and makes you wonder where to start.

Post the tour of the restaurant, we were offered Fresh Lemon mint juice which is made in house and tasted divine. When I was told that I wouldn’t find a similar tasting lemonade elsewhere, I did smirk a little – as I’m a lemon mint person. But boy, was I wrong. The lemon mint juice was served in a tall glass stacked with lemon slices and was placed along with sugar syrup and a bottle of lemon mint juice exclusive to Sheraton. The juice was refreshing, and I was all excited to try their menu.

I started off with the Tokyo section – as nothing says food more than sushi. I totally love sushi and can eat sushi worth my bodyweight. However, I’m still not the ‘authentic sushi’ person and I prefer my sushi meat to be cooked than raw. I was elated when I was told that the sushi is offered with cooked meat – I loved the sushi and it was just perfect.

With my sushi beautifully lined on my plate I went to the starters section – ginger chicken sounded like a good option and I generously filled my plate with it.

We gradually started off with our main course and were spoilt for choices from fish to crab, from rice to noodles – you name it they had it. We both opted out of trying soup and salads as we wanted to build an appetite for the main course.

I loved the chilli crab – it was a bit messy to eat, but the sea food monster in me didn’t mind the mess and ate it nevertheless. If you do order it a la carte you are given crab cutters and gloves, so as to not be as messy as me.

They also have a special set menu called Marasea catch, in case you don’t want to try the buffet.

We were spoilt for choice in the dessert section as well.  We opted for chocolate cake, rice pudding topped with marshmallows and mango mousse topped with tapioca balls. The chocolate cake was a clear winner – it was moist and just melted in the mouth.

Marasea gives options not only in wide array of food, but also in the seating. You can either sit inside the restaurant or sit outside in their terrace (depending on the weather). I loved the outside seating area, with dim lights and the gorgeous view. You have the beautiful Sheraton Hotel pool on one side and on the other the city lights adorn the hotel like a jewel.

If you prefer private dinners – they also arrange for the same. So if you are looking for a private romantic dinner or for family dinner, do make your reservations 24 hours ahead and soak in the beauty of the property and the amazing food.

They also offer  Master class for a group of minimum 10 people. It's an absolute fun wat to bond over cooking food. An excellent choice for corporate's, and family get together's.
